Los Angeles, Ca

The 2019 Kenda/DP4 Racing Championship got underway this weekend, and with epic racing conditions it was the STOCK Artic Cat of Shawn Bigney who recorded the first ever DP4 Racing event Overall Victory!

Proving that it isn’t all about money and equipment, the husband-wife team of Shawn and Tanya Bigney took the win in dramatic fashion besting the Production 1000 Turbo class vehicle of John Connolly and Danny Reider, and the Production 1000 class car of brothers Dylan and Brady Kelly.

With four different brands represented here at round one, spectators were treated to a show of some of the fastest SXS vehicles in the west. Be it the home-built Yamaha YXZ of the Brady Brothers, or the four-seater turned two-seater Polaris RZR of the Connelly/Reider team, all of the major SXS brands were represented here at round one. One of the cleanest (and newest) looking cars was that of the father/son team of Louis and Louis Castillo who raced their hot-off-the-showroom-floor Can Am Maveric X3 in their FIRST EVER off-road race and finished a respectable 4th overall, completing all four laps in just over 3 hours.

The Castillo team of Father/Son Louis III and Louis IV are joined by pit crew member Alex Williamson.
After weeks of prep, the Kelly Brothers YXZ performed flawlessly despite flatting two tires and experiencing the only rollover of the event. Co-driver Reed McIntyre explained on the podium “Well… I had one job to do today, and that was to let Dylan NOT flip the car, and I failed at that!” In fact, Reed proved to have another job in helping to right the car before the DP4 Petroworks Roll Over crew could even get to them.

The Connelly/Reider team physically led most of the race, but suffered their own share of issues while racing. “We broke a CV join on the last lap, that slowed us down, we also had to make some suspension adjustments on one of the pit stops which really helped us to open in up in the wet conditions.” Connelly explained at the finish. “It was really a lot of fun! You guys laid out a great course, DP4 ROCKS!”

Taking the physical lead in the pits on the final lap, and leading on adjusted time from the end of the first loop, the Wildcat ran flawlessly and set a pace that could be matched by none. “The wildcat ran just like a wildcat, out front!” explained Bigney at the finish. “You guys (DP4) put on a great course, it made it easy to just open it up and fly through the desert. You guys had a great mix of real fast and real technical, a lot of the races it is either one or the other… this had a great blend.”

Spraying Champagne from the podium, the top three overall each took home something a little extra special as the DP4 Staff awarded COMPLETE SETS (4-each) of Kenda Tires to all three teams on the podium! “I think our tires are a little out of shape, those Kenda’s are going to be nice at then next one!”

In case you missed it, the DP4 Racing team flooded the internet with live content on both our Facebook and Instagram feeds all weekend long. DP4 Racing to Cancel 2018 event due to timing and scheduling conflicts, looks forward to a strong 2019 DP4 Racing Championship!

Due to factors beyond the control of the Desert Productions 4 team, The DP4 Racing event originally scheduled for October 27th, and then rescheduled for December 1st, has been cancelled indefinitely. However, the 2019 DP4 Racing Championship will continue as planned without further issue.

With racer’s overall experience in mind, the DP4 Racing team chose to originally reschedule the event due to timing restrictions presented because of the National Hare and Hound Event taking place the same weekend. Working with the Bureau of Land Management to secure a new date ahead of the 2018 holiday season proved to be unworkable under such short notice, and the DP4 Racing team has chosen to indefinitely postpone the 2018 event.

The good news is that Desert Productions 4 and the DP4 racing team are more than ready to host side by side racing’s best at the 2019 DP4 Championship Series, which kicks off February 2nd, 2019 in Ridgecrest, Ca.

“We looked long and hard for an event date that would fit both our racer’s schedules and that of the BLM.  With events nearly every weekend between now and the end of the year, we just felt it was best for the series to forgo a 2018 event. This gives us more time to focus on the first event of the year, and make sure that racers get the best possible experience at their first DP4 racing event.” -Tommy Russell, DP4 Racing Referee

The 2019 series will kick off in February, and the following 5 rounds are sure to exciting as the DP4 team hosts events in both the Ridgecrest and Johnson Valley areas. The official 2019 Schedule with locations of events is as follows:

Round 1               February 2, 2019               Ridgecrest, Ca – INAUGURAL DP4  EVENT
Round 2               March 30, 2019                 Johnson Valley, Ca
Round 3               May 18, 2019                    Ridgecrest, Ca
Round 4               July 20, 2019                    Johnson Valley, Ca -NIGHT RACE!
Round 5               September 7, 2019           Johnson Valey, Ca
Round 6               October 19, 2019             Ridgecrest, Ca – FINAL ROUND

“It is unfortunate that we had to scramble and ultimately cancel the 2018 event, but we wanted our racers to really experience the DP4 style of racing. “ Explained Steve Argubright, “With time restrictions that would have limited all of our DP4 racing to under 4 hours of total race time, our only option was to postpone from the original October 27th date. The good news is that we are receiving an overwhelming amount of support for the series, and we know that 2019 will be a record setting year as far as Side by Side racing goes.”

Desert Productions 4 is happy to introduce the America’s newest UTV Off Road Racing Championship!

The DP4 Racing Championship will have a single 2018 event where the inaugural DP4 Racing Champion will be crowned. Following, in 2019, the series will feature 5 events hosted in locations across the Johnson Valley and Spangler Hills OVH areas. Spread out equally throughout the year, the DP4 Championship will give drivers and racing families the chance to spit up their racing expenses and truly follow the series without breaking the bank.

How can you get involved?

DP4 Racing is looking for racers eager to try their first event, and professionals who have hundreds of races under their belts. With varying classes from beginner to pro, the DP4 Championship will have something for all UTV owners.
